‘No to 20 mph’ Design – A Special Request from a Facebook Community member

Hello, machine embroidery enthusiasts

Today, I’m sharing a project requested by one of our Facebook group members. This design addresses a current issue in Wales: the ‘No to 20 mph’ speed limit change.

A member of our group asked for a ‘No to 20 mph’ design. It’s always a joy to create something that resonates with our community, and this particular design touches on a subject that’s been quite the talk here in Wales. As many of you know, the recent changes to speed limits in Wales have sparked a lot of discussions and mixed feelings. Whether you’re for or against the new 20 mph speed limit in residential areas, one thing is clear: it’s a hot topic!

Stitching It Out

Here is the video showing the process of stitching out the ‘No to 20 mph’ design.

The Importance of Stitch-out

When working on new designs, the first stitch-out doesn’t always go as planned. Below, you can see two photos showing the back of the design. The first attempt had too many trims, which can affect the overall quality and durability. This required going back to the digitizing process to refine and optimize the design before stitching it out again. The second photo shows the improved version with a cleaner finish.

The Final Result

Here is the completed design. The bold red and white colours make the design stand out, and the clean lines ensure the message is clear.

Why This Design Matters

The ‘No to 20 mph’ design represents more than a speed limit; it’s about expressing community concerns. Machine embroidery and other crafts provides a platform for expressing opinions and emotions in a creative way, making this piece a conversation starter.
