Reflections on 2024: A Year of Challenges and Creative Hope

As the year draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on what has been a challenging and somewhat unproductive time for my creative pursuits. 2024 has been a whirlwind, and unfortunately, creativity often took a backseat amidst the chaos.

The summer months, which I usually associate with bursts of inspiration and resin art experiments, were disappointingly cold and wet. Resin work requires the right conditions, and between the weather and a lack of free time, those projects simply didn’t happen. It’s frustrating when external factors put a damper on something you love.

This year wasn’t entirely without new ventures, though. We got a laser cutter, which I was so excited about! Unfortunately, technical difficulties meant it didn’t see as much action as I’d hoped. On the bright side, we also acquired a 3D printer, which turned out to be a real game-changer. It’s been fantastic for creating storage solutions to help organise my ever-growing collection of creative supplies. Having a designated place for everything has brought a bit of order to the chaos, and for that, I’m grateful.

Embroidery, another creative outlet I cherish, also fell by the wayside this year. Looking back, it feels like I haven’t been productive at all, which is a tough pill to swallow. But I’m reminding myself that creativity ebbs and flows, and sometimes life just gets in the way.

As I look ahead to 2025, I’m holding onto hope. I hope it’s a year of renewal, of rediscovering my creative mojo, and of finally diving into all those projects that have been on hold. Here’s to brighter days, smoother technical journeys, and a rekindled passion for making and creating.

To anyone else who’s had a tough year creatively, know that you’re not alone. Let’s step into the new year with optimism and a commitment to making time for the things that bring us joy.
