For my husband’s birthday that year, I went with a rich chocolate cake finished with simple but elegant white sugar flowers. I really enjoyed the contrast between the deep chocolate tones and the soft, delicate blossoms — understated but special. It felt like a classic celebration cake, letting the flavour shine while still adding a handmade touch.

This penguin cake from 2016 was such a fun one to make, created especially for my son. I loved shaping the little penguins and giving each of them their own personality, gathered together on their icy blue “pond.” It was playful, cheerful, and full of character — exactly the kind of cake that brings instant smiles and a bit of birthday magic to the table.

This three-tier cake was made with my daughter in mind and was all about a soft, rustic charm. I kept the finish textured and natural, then added gentle floral details for a sweet, homemade feel. It was such a lovely project to build layer by layer, and seeing it come together as a centrepiece made her birthday feel extra special.
